‘Contretemps: Moments that never synced’ explores the liminal spaces between connection and isolation. Those fragile instances when people orbit each other but fail to converge – not through absence of desire, but through subtle misalignments of timing, perception, and emotional rhythm.

I wanted to create something that genuinely reflects the core themes of my practice, as well as the range of techniques I've developed in my studio over the past few years.
Contretemps is the name of the photographers' collective I've been part of since 2006. There are currently six of us, and each member set out to create a personal series inspired by the name of our collective. Literally, contretemps means “against time,” but it can also refer to a “rhythmic disruption” or “an awkward or unforeseen event that disturbs the normal course of things.” I first came up with the title of the series, then developed six concepts based on that theme, and spent about five months creating these final images. Die kwetsbare momenten waarop mensen om elkaar heen cirkelen maar elkaar niet weten te vinden – niet door een gebrek aan verlangen, maar door subtiele verschuivingen in timing, perceptie en emotioneel ritme.
Jaaa, eindelijk een compleet nieuwe serie autonoom werk! Hier heb ik vijf maanden aan gewerkt. Hoewel ik één van de beelden pas gisterenavond heb gemaakt vermoed ik dat dit hem wel eens kan zijn…
Ik wilde iets maken waar de thematiek van mijn werk echt goed in terugkomt, evenals de verschillende technieken die ik de afgelopen jaren in mijn studio heb ontwikkeld.
Contretemps is de naam van het fotografencollectief waar ik sinds 2006 deel van uitmaak. We zijn momenteel met z’n zessen, en elk lid heeft een persoonlijke serie gemaakt die geïnspireerd is op de naam van ons collectief. Letterlijk betekent contretemps “tegen de tijd”, maar het verwijst ook naar een “ritmestoornis” of een “ongelukkige of onverwachte gebeurtenis die de normale gang van zaken verstoort”. Ik begon met de titel van de serie, werkte vervolgens zes concepten uit op basis van dat thema, en heb ongeveer vijf maanden aan deze uiteindelijke beelden gewerkt. Wordt vervolgd!
