What were you thinking?
Groningen, the Netherlands (2026).
One of the nicest and most relaxed parks in the Netherlands is the Noorderplantsoen in Groningen. In the 17th century, the city's defensive ramparts were built here and moats were dug. At the end of the 19th century, a park in the English landscape style was laid out on the old city walls, and the moats were turned into ponds.
Today it's mainly a place where young and old come together. When the weather's nice, plenty of students can be found lying in the grass. A highlight is the annual Noorderzon festival, ten days at the end of summer packed with (inter)national theatre, music, and great food. It's the place to see and be seen — though this girl seemed to be opting out of that.

Een van de leukste en meest relaxte parken van Nederland is het Noorderplantsoen in Groningen. In de 17e eeuw werden hier de verdedigingswallen van de stad gebouwd en stadsgrachten gegraven. Eind 19e eeuw werd op de oude stadswallen een park in Engelse landschapsstijl aangelegd, en veranderden de grachten in vijvers.
Tegenwoordig is het vooral een plek waar jong en oud samenkomt. Met mooi weer liggen er veel studenten in het gras. Een hoogtepunt is het jaarlijkse Noorderzonfestival. Aan het eind van de zomer kun je er tien dagen lang genieten van (inter)nationaal theater, muziek, en lekker eten. Het is dé plek om mensen te zien en gezien te worden, al leek bovenstaand meisje zich daaraan te onttrekken.
