When is something finished?
It's a question that comes up in every art project. Sometimes the answer is crystal clear, but often it needs time to mature before it presents itself. That's the case with my newest series: Tipping Point.
The inspiration came from my fascination with the relentless progress and irreversibility of time. In four still lifes, an egg balances on the edge. Each image refers to an everyday, seemingly insignificant moment from my childhood that later turned out to have a lifelong, character-shaping impact.
Such a tipping point, the moment when something can no longer be undone, applies to the series itself too: when is it finished? At a time when text and images are being polished smooth by AI, I think it's important to also show the part of the authentic, creative process in which doubt and imperfection have a place. That's why I'm showing you the series already, even though it's (perhaps) not quite finished yet.
What am I unsure about? Whether the number of images is right. Whether they fit the text. Whether they're interesting enough. Whether I should straighten the curved lines of the cube in photos 2 and 3 or leave them. That kind of thing.
What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Kantelpunt. Wanneer is iets af?
