The golden circle
Why are companies like Apple so successful? Simon Sinek explains it here. His model 'The Golden Circle' is simple: don't start your story with 'what' you do but with 'why' you do it. During Route entrepreneurship we were given the assignment to introduce ourselves in the same way. Mine is as follows:
Why? I believe that time and attention are the most valuable resources we have. Both are finite and always scarce. This has frustrated me for as long as I can remember — every day I want to do more than time allows.
How? Fortunately, I discovered that attention is the key to gaining some sense of control over time. As a cognitive neuroscientist, I spent nearly 30 years studying how attention changes over time and how it works in our brains. Now I capture attention through images, where light, chance, and time play an essential role.
What? I am a photographer, visual artist, and web designer. I offer you my attention and time, captured in images.

Waarom zijn bedrijven zoals Apple zo succesvol? Simon Sinek legt het hier uit. Zijn model ‘The Golden Circle’ is simpel: begin je verhaal niet met ‘wat’ je doet maar met ‘waarom’ je het doet. Tijdens Route ondernemerschap kregen we de opdracht om onszelf op dezelfde manier te introduceren. Die van mij is als volgt:
Waarom? Ik geloof dat tijd en aandacht de meest waardevolle resources zijn die we hebben. Beide zijn eindig en altijd schaars. Dat frustreert me mijn hele leven al – elke dag wil ik eigenlijk meer doen dan er in een dag past.
Hoe? Gelukkig heb ik ontdekt dat aandacht de sleutel is om toch enigszins grip op de tijd te krijgen. Als cognitief neurowetenschapper onderzocht ik bijna 30 jaar hoe aandacht over de tijd verandert en hoe dat dan werkt in onze hersenen. Nu vang ik aandacht met beeld, waarbij licht, toeval en de tijd een belangrijke rol spelen.
Wat? Ik ben fotograaf, beeldend kunstenaar en webdesigner. Ik bied je mijn aandacht en tijd, vastgelegd in beelden.
