I've been invited to talk about my art on live television! On Omroep Friesland, Saturday April 19th around 9:15 AM, together with Christien Loen, one of the organizers of Kaalstaart. Super exciting of course! 🫣
This weekend, Kaalstaart is docked in Groningen in one of the city’s most beautiful spots. Besides light installations, paintings, ceramics, and a homemade tea machine, my photography series ‘Ceci n'est pas un oeuf’ will be on display:
“Inspired by Jaap-Henk Hoepman's critical reflection on digital space - a domain without any real laws of nature - Sander Martens created ‘Ceci n'est pas un œuf’, a reference to René Magritte's philosophical art that questions the boundary between reality and imagination: We spend an increasing amount of our time in digital worlds, where any form of nuance is often far from being possible. Something is thumbs up or thumbs down. Social media offers us all our own stage to the world. But it is not a stage. It is not real. And life is not just black and white.”

Dit weekend is Kaalstaart in Groningen op een van de mooiste plekjes van de stad aangemeerd. Naast lichtinstallaties, schilderijen, ceramiek, en een zelfgemaakte thee-machine is er mijn fotografie serie ‘Ceci n’est pas un oeuf’ te zien:
“Geïnspireerd door Jaap-Henk Hoepman's kritische reflectie op de digitale ruimte - een domein zonder echte natuurwetten - creëerde Sander Martens 'Ceci n'est pas un œuf', een verwijzing naar René Magritte's filosofische kunst die de grens tussen werkelijkheid en verbeelding bevraagt: We spenderen een steeds groter deel van onze tijd in digitale werelden, waar enige vorm van nuance vaak ver te zoeken is. Iets is duimpje omhoog of duimpje omlaag. Social media bieden ons allemaal een eigen podium naar de wereld. Maar het is geen podium. Het is niet echt. En het leven is niet alleen zwart-wit.”
