I’ve been experimenting for a while combining photography with mixed-media techniques - adding ‘controlled chaos’ and a tactile quality to my work. However, I missed a clear rationale as to why I would ‘mistreat’ my photographs in this way, aside from reasons of experimentation. In this project, in which I’ve combined self-portraits with ink and soil, things suddenly came together. It portrays how death devastates life, at first as a minor nuisance, later as an all-devouring force.
