Opening brainstorm

Life certainly has its surprising twists and turns! When I started the initial talks with Academie Minerva and the University Museum back in 2022 with my colleagues Iris Sommer, Marie-José van Tol and Franciska de Beer, I’d never thought that I would end up contributing to the exhibition as an artist showing my ‘Form over function’ photography series, rather than as the cognitive neuroscientist that I was at the time. Also Leonie Bais swapped her scientific career for a new challenge last year; creating her foodlab filled with innovative fermentation techniques. Leonie was asked to create a pop-up Foodlab within the museum during the opening weekend, offering delicious drinks and bites, together with my artistic photos depicting some of the ingredients that were used. The opening of the expo was yesterday evening, which was great!
The foodlab and my art will be there for this weekend only, so do drop by quickly if you want to taste and see for yourself! The primary exhibition is on display for the rest of the year.
Het leven heeft zo zijn verrassende wendingen! Toen ik in 2022 met mijn collega's Iris Sommer, Marie-José van Tol en Franciska de Beer de eerste gesprekken aanging met Academie Minerva en het Universiteitsmuseum, had ik nooit gedacht dat ik uiteindelijk aan de tentoonstelling zou bijdragen als kunstenaar met mijn fotoserie 'Vorm boven functie', in plaats van als cognitief neurowetenschapper. Ook Leonie Bais verruilde vorig jaar haar wetenschappelijke carrière voor een nieuwe uitdaging; het creëren van haar foodlab vol innovatieve fermentatietechnieken. Leonie was gevraagd om een pop-up foodlab in het museum te creëren, met heerlijke drankjes en hapjes, samen met mijn artistieke foto's die een aantal van de gebruikte ingrediënten in beeld brachten. Gisterenavond was de geweldige opening van de expo.
Het foodlab en mijn kunstwerken zijn er alleen dit weekend, dus kom snel langs als je zelf wilt proeven en kijken! De primaire tentoonstelling is de rest van het jaar te bewonderen.
