My first year as an artist…

For almost a year now, I've been able to call myself a full-time photographer, artist, and web designer. A big and quite exhilarating step, especially in a time when artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly powerful and creative. And certainly also for the control freak that I am, in a world that seems to be falling more and more into chaos. It feels like an enormous privilege to be able to occupy myself with beautiful and cool things in that same world.

"Does it pay off?" many people ask me. Well, it certainly leads to many beautiful and cool things, ranging from websites for photographers, artists, and general practitioners; cool publications (e.g., PF magazine, Artdoc Magazine), to various exhibitions (last month in a museum, today and tomorrow at the RAI in Amsterdam, and next month on a large ship!). It's gratifying to notice that there's still appreciation for a personal visual language with a story, where the imperfect is actually embraced. I made the image below at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, only a fortnight ago. Today, it is already on its way to a happy art buyer!

Mijn eerste jaar als kunstenaar…

Bijna een jaar lang mag ik mezelf nu fulltime fotograaf, kunstenaar en web designer noemen. Een grote en spannende stap, zeker in een tijd waarin kunstmatige intelligentie steeds krachtiger en creatiever wordt. En zeker ook voor de control freak die ik ben, in een wereld die hoe langer hoe meer in chaos lijkt te vervallen. Het voelt dan ook als een enorm voorrecht om in diezelfde wereld mij vooral met mooie en coole dingen bezig te mogen houden.

“Levert het wat op?”, vragen veel mensen mij. Nou, vooral veel mooie en coole dingen, variërend van websites voor fotografen, kunstenaars, en huisartsen; coole publicaties (bijv. PF magazine, Artdoc Magazine); tot diverse exposities (vorige maand nog in een museum, vandaag en morgen in de RAI Amsterdam en volgende maand op een groot schip!). Het doet me goed te merken dat er nog steeds waardering is voor een persoonlijke beeldtaal met een verhaal, waarbij juist het imperfecte omarmd wordt. Onderstaand beeld heb ik nog maar twee weken geleden bij het Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam gemaakt. Vandaag is ‘ie al onderweg naar een gelukkige kunstkoper!
