Preparing for the weekend...!
On February 15 & 16th, a pop-up expo will take place at the University Museum Groningen, featuring ten of my artistic vegetable photograps, as part of Leonie Bais's innovative Foodlab. Tomorrow evening, Leonie will serve festive snacks and drinks based on fermentation techniques, on the occasion of the official opening of the new main exhibition ‘Brainstorm’. The main exhibition can be visited throughout 2025, but the pop-up foodlab and my vegetable art will be there during this weekend only. So don't miss it and come and see, smell, and taste!

This exhibition is all about the marvel of the human brain. Your brain defines who you are, what you think and feel, how you move, and what motivates you. It may well be the most personal part of your body. Through four key brain functions—willing, perceiving, thinking, and doing—you’ll explore how your brain works.
In Brainstorm, you’ll experience how your brain handles different situations. Discover, for example, how fast you can race when distracted or how easily hallucinations can be induced.
From the earliest brain scans to the impact of your gut, the fascinating brain has captured our attention for centuries. The exhibition delves into historical and modern brain research, highlighting groundbreaking studies by Groningen neuroscientists (and my former colleagues) Marie-José van Tol and Iris Sommer.

The exhibition was created in collaboration with researchers Iris Sommer, Marie-José van Tol and Franciska de Beer and was made possible thanks to the UMCG, the Science on Wednesday initiative and the Research School of Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) of the University of Groningen.
Voorbereidingen voor het weekend...! Want dan is er een pop-up expo in het Universiteitsmuseum Groningen met tien van mijn artistieke groente foto’s, temidden van het innovatieve Foodlab van Leonie Bais. Leonie zal morgenavond feestelijke hapjes en drankjes op basis van fermentatietechnieken serveren, ter gelegenheid van de officiële opening van de nieuwe grote tentoonstelling ‘Brainstorm’. De hoofdtentoonstelling is het hele jaar 2025 te bezoeken, maar het pop-up foodlab en mijn groentekunst zijn er alleen dit weekend. Mis het dus niet en kom kijken, ruiken en proeven!

In Brainstorm ervaar je hoe jouw eigen hersenen omgaan met verschillende situaties: kom er bijvoorbeeld achter hoe snel jij kan racen als je wordt afgeleid, of hoe makkelijk het is om hallucinaties op te wekken.
Je hersenen bepalen wie je bent, wat je denkt en voelt, hoe je beweegt en wat je drijft. Ze zijn misschien wel het meest persoonlijke onderdeel van je lichaam. In de tentoonstelling ‘Brainstorm’ draait het om dat wonder van de menselijke hersenen. Aan de hand van vier belangrijke hersenfuncties: willen, waarnemen, denken en doen, ontdek je zelf hoe je hersenen werken.
Van de eerste hersenscans tot de invloed van je darmen: het fascinerende brein houdt ons al eeuwen bezig. In de tentoonstelling leer je meer over hersenonderzoek van toen, maar ook van nu. Zo staat het baanbrekend onderzoek van de Groningse hersenwetenschappers Marie-José van Tol en Iris Sommer (en mijn voormalige collega’s) centraal in Brainstorm.

De tentoonstelling is gemaakt in samenwerking met onderzoekers Iris Sommer, Marie-José van Tol en Franciska de Beer en is tot stand gekomen dankzij het UMCG , het initiatief Wetenschap op Woensdag en de Research School of Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
