A Vintage Portrait on Vinyl
Vinyl dominated the music market from the 1950s until the early 1980s, was then pushed aside by CDs, but has been enjoying a steady revival since around 2007 — in some markets, vinyl records are once again outselling CDs.
Why the revival?
A combination of nostalgia, the physical/tangible aspect (cover artwork), and the deliberate listening experience; you put a side on and listen through it, instead of endlessly shuffling. Artists and labels are also playing into this with special editions, colored vinyl, and more.
While We Were Grandiose
Anne Jan Toonstra is one of them. Two years ago he released his debut album, and as of today his new album is available: While We Were Grandiose. I not only built his new website, but also made the artwork for the inner sleeve of the beautiful vinyl record.
On Friday, October 2nd, the release show will take place at the Oosterpoort in Groningen. Hopefully his new work will be received just as enthusiastically as his debut:

Een vintage portret op vinyl
Vinyl domineerde de muziekmarkt van de jaren '50 tot begin jaren '80, werd daarna verdrongen door cd's, maar beleeft sinds ongeveer 2007 een gestage revival — inmiddels verkopen vinylplaten in sommige markten weer meer dan cd's.
Waarom de revival?
Een combinatie van nostalgie, het fysieke/tastbare aspect (hoesartwork), en de bewuste luisterervaring; je zet een kant op en luistert die uit, in plaats van eindeloos shuffelen. Ook artiesten en labels spelen daarop in met speciale edities, gekleurd vinyl, etc.

Anne Jan Toonstra ook. Twee jaar geleden bracht hij zijn debuutalbum uit en vanaf vandaag is zijn nieuwe album beschikbaar: While We Were Grandiose. Ik maakte niet alleen zijn nieuwe website, maar ook het artwork voor de binnenkant van het prachtige album op vinyl.
Op vrijdag 2 oktober vindt de releaseshow plaats in de Oosterpoort te Groningen. Hopelijk wordt zijn nieuwe werk net zo enthousiast ontvangen als zijn debuut:
